Our contemporary hour-glass shaped West End cut is recognised by a single- breasted coat with a soft natural shoulder, bold chest drape, nipped waist and a flared skirt over the hips. The cavalry cut plain front trousers are tailored as they should be: a traditional button hole fly and metal side straps to gently adjust the waist. The Super 120’s fibres had the best treatment they could get from Alfred Brown, a genuine family run Yorkshire Textile mill since 1915. The cloth proudly carries the name edge selvedge “Super 120’s Wool Made in England”.

the suit
We are very proud to introduce our West End pattern block that we have been developing over the past few decades. A classical cut that is identified by its single-breasted coats with a soft natural shoulder, bold chest drape, nipped waist and a flared skirt over the hips. The cavalry cut trousers are tailored as they should be: a traditional buttonhole fly and metal side straps to gently adjust the waist. This type of cut is often referred to as the Conduit cut, named after the tailor on Conduit Street in London’s Mayfair district. He became more famous still for dressing Sean Connery’s James Bond. His understated comment was: “I make clothes in the classic English tradition. I won’t make exaggerated, flamboyant clothes. I make only a Savile Row style. The only comment I want about my suits is that they are elegant. And I’ve given Connery the same cut I’ve given every customer all my tailoring life.” Many tailors at the Row follow this philosophy. And so do we. We’re delighted to make our beautiful and minimalistic cut now available for you.

Alfred Brown, Super 120’s
The term super ‘x’ refers to the diameter of the actual wool fibre in micrometres. In this case 17.75 micron. It implies that the base quality of the wool is perfect for a garment that is both durable and comfortable to wear and can be worn by customers with a good build that like a finer fabric. The term super 120’s itself is not a guarantee for a nice cloth because it doesn’t tell us how the base material has been spun, twined, woven or finished. However, in the case of Alfred Brown one knows that the 100% merino base fibres have had the best treatment possible. The cloth (270gr) proudly carries the named edge selvedge “Super 120’s Wool Made in England”. Alfred Brown has come a long way since 1915. It’s a genuine fifth generation family business, Yorkshire based textile mill with a proud heritage. Weaving cloth for the RAF, the crew of the Queen Mary, the outfits of the most prestigious hotels in London and of course for Harry Potter. These are just a few examples of the glamorous clientele of Alfred Brown. All the fabrics are woven at Empire Mills in Yorkshire, England. Quality, attention to design detail and continual reinvestment in new ranges and machinery makes Alfred Brown a valued partner of understated.
